August 21st, 2008CityFlitz…$1 a day car rental program in Toronto
August 21st, 2008CityFlitz, Toronto’s newest auto-sharing company, showcased its $1 a day rental program in Toronto at Yonge-Dundas Square yesterday.
Its premise is simple: Drive around the city at least 30 kilometers a day in a car plastered with advertising, which heavily subsidizes the cost of the rental. They have rental cars at parking lots around the city nearby subway stations.
Cool: Wi-Fi high speed internet. This is really handy for iPhone users and anyone with a laptop who gets lost and needs to quickly look up Google Maps. Or if you’re a bored blogger stuck in gridlocked traffic.
Drawback: You are driving around in a mobile billboard (if you don’t mind). Also, each CityFlitz car in the fleet has a built-in GPS tracking system, this enables advertisers to have real-time information about the use of the car. Aside from the 30 km minimum use per day, CityFlitz members are allowed unlimited mileage within the city after that. And CityFlitzers are responsible for topping up the gas upon completion of the rental.

August 21st, 2008Class action suit claims Apple deceived over iPhone 3G speeds
August 21st, 2008An Alabama woman filed a lawsuit yesterday against Apple claiming that the company’s iPhone 3G drops calls, has trouble connecting to AT&T’s network and is slower than advertised. Apple’s advertising blitz was misleading, the lawsuit claims. “Defendant intended for customers to believe its statements and representations about the Defective iPhone 3Gs, and to trust that the device was ‘twice as fast at half the price,’” the lawsuit said.

Microsoft hires Jerry Seinfeld to bite Apple
August 21st, 2008The news is out and Jerry Seinfeld is going to try to improve Microsoft’s brand. Microsoft has set aside $300 million for an ad campaign featuring once-funny comedian Jerry Seinfeld in a series of advertisements targeting Apple.
What’s funny about this is that in all the episodes of Seinfeld, Jerry always has a Mac on his computer desk. If you google Seinfled + Apple you’ll be directed to Youtube where you’ll see one of Apple’s “Think Different” ads produced a while ago featuring among others Ghandi, Jim Henson, John Lennon and numerous other luminaries and also a young Jerry Seinfeld.

August 20th, 2008The cause of “MobileMe” problems
August 20th, 2008I was reading some blogs and came across the guy in charge of MobileMe - (John Martin). Rumour has it that he lost his job last Friday. But the kicker is that he came from Microsoft and brought several of his Redmond buddies to Apple. Do I smell sabotage??!!
iPhone 2.02 update
August 20th, 2008Apple has finally acknowledged the iPhone 3G’s reception issues, confirming that the iPhone 2.0.2 software update was designed to fix those problems.
But, it’s not clear whether all of the problems have actually been fixed. I still have the problem where it occasionally drops from 3G to Edge on the Rogers network. I have read many reports (from US bloggers) where people have reported that the update did improve their reception.
However, I was reading Chuq Von Rospach’s blog (a former Apple employee) who reported earlier this week that Apple will take several months for a fix to be developed by Infineon, believed to be the source of the reception problems. Perhaps the 2.0.2 update isn’t the complete fix, but a starting point for putting the reception issues to rest.“What I was told was that 90% of the disconnects are initiated inside the phone, which would exonerate AT&T. Most of the disconnects are being generated by crashes in the driver code for the 3G chip, which comes from the chip vendor, not something Apple written and outside of Apple’s direct control.”
GrooveShield Form the best iPhone 3G case yet?
August 20th, 2008This iPhone case looks identical to my iPhone case (minus the peeling).
The GrooveShield Form is very straightforward: it’s shaped in such a way that it hugs your iPhone 3G perfectly and protects the back, corners, and edges from scratches and general wear and tear.
Because of its thinness, the GrooveShield Form almost looks like it’s part of the case, and in fact many people who’ve seen ours thought we had some special-edition ninja iPhone–which is exactly what you want a case to look like.
