Fake call :: iPhone App

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Fake calls is the funniest iPhone app I’ve seen so far. It’s not free, but only 99 cents. Basically if you get caught on the worst date ever or just want to have a reason to duck out of a meeting or end a pointles conversation (with Naveed)….this app can help with a bit of a fake out.

Just tap the app, triggering “Fakecall mode.” Within seconds, the phone’s call screen appears, the phone rings and the buttons to accept and decline calls surface. The look and sound are really believable.

Or you could stop being dishonest and just tell someone that you have to leave. And give (or don’t give) them the reason

Snow Leopard VS. Windows 7

Monday, November 10th, 2008

13 days ago, Microsoft announced it will be releasing a new edition of its operating software, called Windows 7, while Apple is working on its new OS X Snow Leopard. Check out this site (The Onion), which provides a side-by-side feature-by-feature comparison. Sami — point #2 might be the most important reason to switch to a Mac…..hahaha

iPhone

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Independent warranty provider SquareTrade has released a report showing that iPhones are more reliable than either BlackBerry or Palm Treo devices. I don’t know if this is actually valid??!! I currently own an iPhone and it is not perfect yet! MobileSafari still has its bugs and 3G can be better (blame it on Rogers!!)

The report, titled “iPhone More Reliable than BlackBerry, One Year In“, analyzes failure rates for more than 15,000 new cell phones covered by SquareTrade warranties. SquareTrade found that after one year of ownership, iPhone owners were half as likely as BlackBerry owners to have a phone failure, and one-third as likely as Treo owners.

Hahahahaha — they obviously haven’t talked to Sami yet. It took him 3 iPhones to get a stable iPhone.

New Apple laptops on the way???

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Sources all over the web are gearing up for Apple to launch a whole range of new laptops in the coming weeks. I certainly hope this is true. Apple knows how to innovate through these economic downturns.

Google Street View might be coming to iPhone 2.2?

Monday, October 6th, 2008

Google Street View is the next best thing!! It is sooooo cool…can’t wait till its available!!

Couple of new features buried within the iPhone 2.2 beta (NOT OFFICIAL):

- Support for Japanese emoji icons — a popular feature for Japanese phones. The lack of emoji support has been blamed as part of the reason for slow iPhone adoption in Japan.

- Support for Google Street View for the Google Maps application. Street View allows users to view panoramic street level photographs in select cities within the Google Maps application. I hope it does not slow down the iPhone’s performance.

Finally, Apple has also addressed one common request within the iPhone’s Keyboard settings, allowing users to disable the iPhone’s auto-correction.

Also, I hope they concentrate on getting the email fetching bug fixed in the new firmware, multimedia messaging, a full-on word processor,

BlackBerry Bold may be joining the iPhone 3G with reception issues

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

There are lots of people reporting on the spotty iPhone 3G reception issues and according to Barron’s it looks like the BlackBerry Bold may be experiencing those same 3G reception issues.

Class action suit claims Apple deceived over iPhone 3G speeds

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

An Alabama woman filed a lawsuit yesterday against Apple claiming that the company’s iPhone 3G drops calls, has trouble connecting to AT&T’s network and is slower than advertised. Apple’s advertising blitz was misleading, the lawsuit claims. “Defendant intended for customers to believe its statements and representations about the Defective iPhone 3Gs, and to trust that the device was ‘twice as fast at half the price,’” the lawsuit said.

Steve Jobs vows iPhone app crash fix for September

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

An AppleInsider reader has received one of Steve Jobs’ characteristically brief and rare personal responses, assuring them that his company is aware of the problem and has a solution.

“This is a known iPhone bug that is being fixed in the next software update in September,” reads the one-line message from the Apple co-founder.

Microsoft hires Jerry Seinfeld to bite Apple

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

The news is out and Jerry Seinfeld is going to try to improve Microsoft’s brand. Microsoft has set aside $300 million for an ad campaign featuring once-funny comedian Jerry Seinfeld in a series of advertisements targeting Apple.

What’s funny about this is that in all the episodes of Seinfeld, Jerry always has a Mac on his computer desk. If you google Seinfled + Apple you’ll be directed to Youtube where you’ll see one of Apple’s “Think Different” ads produced a while ago featuring among others Ghandi, Jim Henson, John Lennon and numerous other luminaries and also a young Jerry Seinfeld.

The cause of “MobileMe” problems

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

I was reading some blogs and came across the guy in charge of MobileMe - (John Martin). Rumour has it that he lost his job last Friday. But the kicker is that he came from Microsoft and brought several of his Redmond buddies to Apple. Do I smell sabotage??!!

iPhone 2.02 update

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

Apple has finally acknowledged the iPhone 3G’s reception issues, confirming that the iPhone 2.0.2 software update was designed to fix those problems.

But, it’s not clear whether all of the problems have actually been fixed. I still have the problem where it occasionally drops from 3G to Edge on the Rogers network. I have read many reports (from US bloggers) where people have reported that the update did improve their reception.

However, I was reading Chuq Von Rospach’s blog (a former Apple employee) who reported earlier this week that Apple will take several months for a fix to be developed by Infineon, believed to be the source of the reception problems. Perhaps the 2.0.2 update isn’t the complete fix, but a starting point for putting the reception issues to rest.“What I was told was that 90% of the disconnects are initiated inside the phone, which would exonerate AT&T. Most of the disconnects are being generated by crashes in the driver code for the 3G chip, which comes from the chip vendor, not something Apple written and outside of Apple’s direct control.”

GrooveShield Form the best iPhone 3G case yet?

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

This iPhone case looks identical to my iPhone case (minus the peeling).

The GrooveShield Form is very straightforward: it’s shaped in such a way that it hugs your iPhone 3G perfectly and protects the back, corners, and edges from scratches and general wear and tear.

Because of its thinness, the GrooveShield Form almost looks like it’s part of the case, and in fact many people who’ve seen ours thought we had some special-edition ninja iPhone–which is exactly what you want a case to look like.

Apple tops customer satisfaction survey

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

To all you Apple haters out there:

“The latest rankings from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) show that Apple has dramatically outpaced its rival computer makers in the hearts of U.S. consumers,” reports Asher Hawkins (forbes.com). The ACSI survey “ranks Apple at 85” out of 100, “11 points above the computer-maker industry average.” In fact, “Apple’s rating is also an all-time high for the computer industry.”

iPhone Turn-by-turn GPS navigation ready, but blocked by Apple’s SDK terms

Monday, August 18th, 2008

According to an MSNBC report, we’ll be waiting a long time until the iPhone 3G’s GPS feature lives up to its true potential. Three of the biggest GPS companies say they’re interested in working with Apple, and one has even run their application on the device. But TomTom, Garmin, and Magellan won’t reveal any firm plans. “We have made our navigation system run on the iPhone; it looks good and works very well,” said Dutch-based company TomTom, in a statement to MSNBC. “We will have to look more closely to Apple’s strategy before we can say more about what kind of opportunities this will bring us.” We reported previously that Apple may developing their own solution, and recent beta releases of the iPhone OS 2.1 contained references for enhanced GPS support needed for these apps. Apple’s Greg Joswiak was quoted as describing this navigational Apps as “complicated.” If TomTom already has its application up and running to its satisfaction on an iPhone, why don’t we see it for sale in the App Store? Unfortunately, no one is answering that question right now.

iPhone Jailbreak

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Try at your own risk!!!

News is just out of a new way to jailbreak your iPhone, and this time the tool is specifically designed to work “quickly and easily, without requiring a full restore.” Quickpwn has been released as a beta, intended to complement the main PwnageTool. It works with iPhones and iPod’s running 2.0.1 firmware, and operates very quickly without needing iTunes to rebuild/restore your device afterwards.

New BlackBerry expected this week???

Monday, August 18th, 2008

UPDATE: Blackberry Bold phone to hit shelves Thursday. On Thursday, RIM’s most advanced smart phone to date, the BlackBerry Bold, will officially hit Canadian store shelves when the device goes on sale through Rogers Wireless, the telecom giant confirmed Monday. No pricing details have been officially released, but analysts are anticipating the Bold will cost between $199 and $399 on a three year contract.

The new BlackBerry model should be coming to Canada sometime this week. Too late for me. Switched to a 16 Gb white iPhone after 2 years with a Blackberry on my pocket. The Apple device is very different from a Blackberry and I’ve had no problems with the phone on the Rogers network. Many are complaining about the iPhone 3G’s reception problems, which are now believed to be the result of a problem with the Infineon chipset inside the unit. Business Week reported Thursday that Apple and Infineon are working on a software fix for the problem, which Apple has yet to officially acknowledge. I believe Apple is already working on a fix for the 3G signal loss problem (mostly common on the AT&T 3G network…Does AT&T have the sufficient bandwidth to meet all these 3G Users??). My phone works well with the Rogers network.

My only complaint about the iPhone is battery life. The iPhone won’t last a 2 days without charging. If I leave for work in the morning, surf websites, check email, talk on the phone and listen to the music, it is almost dead by the next afternoon. It all depends on what you use the phone for. Touch keyboards do take some getting used to, but so did the Blackberry pad.

I believe the Bold will sell well, but only in the business-oriented market. Rumour has it that Citigroup is going to which from Blackberry’s to iPhones. There are bugs with the iPhone 2.0 but then critics are always there to rip open all Apple products. Don’t get me started on Windows Mobile 6!!! NEXT QUESTION!
