Review :: The Dark Knight

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

2 weeks after it’s release and I finally saw The Dark Knight (not in IMAX b/c all shows were still sold-out. WOW!!!….this movie was incredible! If this movie doesn’t take most of the Oscars I would be disappointed!! At least, give the best supporting-actor to Heath Ledger!! My jaw dropped with his performance. He was so amazing. The trailers only tip the ice burg of his role. Only makes me sad that Heath Ledger is gone. One of those actors you take for granted and now miss. A great quote: “DO YOU WANT TO KNOW HOW I GOT THESE SCARS” as he taunts his victims. Ledger’s performance is one of those rare freakish performances that come out to define a decade (eg. Scarface).

Great story and direction…great acting performances, great CGI and special effects…though, they should have cast another actress for Rachel Dawes.

Some questions: I wonder who the new Joker would be, or would there be another Joker at all??

When the movie ended, I had to take the longest washroom break and realized that this movie will go down as the best movie for the summer of 2008 and gets a job perfectly done by all. My rating is 10/10. For sure, BUY THIS DVD!!

Review :: WALL-E

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

WOW!!! This movie was hands down the best PIXAR animated film I’ve seen in years. WALL-E really surprised me with so much depth, meaning and emotion, in fact, there was almost no need for dialogue. All the robots blew my mind and captured my heart with just their body language. It is not just a kid’s movie. It is meant to be a movie that everyone can appreciate. In fact, there are some lessons that people can pick up from the film as well. This film gets a perfect rating from me!!! I cannot recommend this movie enough. I loved every second of it.

WALL-E with the heart of a MAC

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

After watching Disney-Pixar’s new WALL-E movie, I was proud to see when the robot boots up, he makes the standard Mac startup sound. That’s not the only Apple connection with the movie. WALL-E’s job is to wander around an abandoned Earth, pick up trash, and compact it into small blocks. However, when he finds something special that he likes, such as an iPod, he keeps it.

Review :: The Incredible Hulk

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

I know its kinda late, but here is my review of “The Incredible Hulk.” My opinion, not as good as Iron Man, but much better than the previous version. Loved the story and execution of the plot.

Edward Norton (a.k.a Bruce Banner (HULK)…much better job than Eric Bana) was spot on.
It was great to see Lou Ferrigno (the original Hulk) in fine form on the big screen (still taking those human growth hormone pills..hahaha).
Robert Downey Jr’s cameo was a surprise.
Liv Tyler’s (a.k.a. Betty Ross) always innocent-sexy, but cannot act (her script was written by Amit!).
Tim Roth (a.k.a. KGB agent and spy who becomes the Abomination) played an excellent villian.

The action scenes were mind blowing especially the final battle scene (filmed in Toronto-Yonge Street!! Whoop Whoop). Another great achievement by MARVEL…what’s next for them?

“Constructicon Earth Mover”….Devastator will appear in the film.

Frank Miller’s The Spirit

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Sid…i know you’ll go watch this movie! Pretty bodysuit..eh?

em1poster.jpgemposter.jpg

Adapted from the legendary comic book series created by Will Eisner, The Spirit is a classic action-adventure-romance written for the screen and directed by genre-twister Frank Miller. It is the story of a former rookie cop who returns mysteriously from the dead as the Spirit (Gabriel Macht) to fight crime from the shadows of Central City. His arch-enemy, the Octopus (Samuel L. Jackson) has a different mission: he’s going to wipe out Spirit’s beloved city as he pursues his own version of immortality. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City’s rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront… all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader

Review :: Iron Man

Monday, May 12th, 2008

FINALLY saw Iron Man last night and it was a great action movie, much better than any movie of this genre that I’ve seen in years!

Robert Downey Jr. takes on the character of arms genius, Tony Stark, who is a successor to his dad. During a trip to Afghanistan to demonstrate his company’s new rocket, Stark is blown back to reality when his Hummer envoy is attacked. He suffers a severe heart injury and his kidnappers force him to manufacture a missile for them using his own company’s equipment. He instead creates a suit of power armour from scrap metal to save his life from the mountains of Afghanistan. Once back home in his Malibu mansion, Stark sets his mind on refining the suit that freed him. He wants to better his company so that weapons no longer end up in the hands of bad guys. He’s a changed billionaire whose goal is to fight crime using his new metal suit with techonological devices. Starks’ right-hand partner soon finds greed with the new Stark, resulting in conflict.

It is indeed a high bar for every other comic movie this summer (Hulk, Wolverine or Batman - The Dark Knight), or next summer, or the summer after that. I really enjoyed Iron Man, especially the scenes where Tony Stark works on his suits. Pepper, I don’t think I’ve ever liked her so much as an actress (Liked Gwynyth Paltrow’s legs….hahaha) Jeff Bridges is an odd choice for a villain, but he somehow pulled it off.

Question: How is Stark able to fly from Malibu to Afghanistan in like 15 minutes??? Must be an efficient Honda robot engine!

VERDICT: Buy the DVD when it comes out

“Winner Winner Chicken Dinner”….21 :: Review

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Based on Ben Mezrich’s bestselling novel “Bringing Down the House,” 21 is about MIT math genius Ben Campbell’s adventure into the world of blackjack card counting. It is a movie inspired by a true story, but don’t look for solid facts. The real Ben is actually an Asian kid. Ben needs $300,000, or a full scholarship, to get into Harvard Medical school. Micky Rosa (Kevin Spacey) has an unusual blackjack club at MIT. On weekends, Micky flies the “MIT Blackjack Club” to Las Vegas where four members count cards at the blackjack tables and bet strategically to make thousands of dollars. The casinos start to catch on as the money flows away from them, and security pro Cole Williams (Laurence Fishburne) begins to uncover Micky’s elaborate scheme.

21 is fun weekend movie because of its carefree style and attitude. It has its flaws as some points during the movie were boring, but if you enjoy the adrenaline and glamour of Vegas gaming, you’ll enjoy it. I won’t ruin the it, but the ending is a damn good one.
